Hello and welcome back to the TM Auto Wholesalers company blog! Last time we covered why purchasing a used car, truck, or SUV at an honest car dealership like TM Auto is in your best interest, but this week we’re changing things up a little bit with the first in our series of Every Driver Should Know. That’s right, we’re covering a topic that should be at the forefront of every driver’s mind during these cold winter months, changing your antifreeze!

Step 1

Draining and replacing antifreeze coolant prevents damage from rust and calcium deposits, and is easy too! All you need are a draining pan and a replacement bottle of antifreeze. The first step is to read your car’s owner’s manual to figure out the capacity of your car’s cooling system. As a rule of thumb, you should buy enough antifreeze coolant to fill 50-70% of its capacity.

Step 2

Put a pan beneath the radiator drain plug, then unscrew the radiator cap (make sure your engine is cool first!) before removing the drain plug.

Step 3

Once the radiator has drained completely, replace the drain plug and begin filling the radiator with cool water.

Step 4

Leave the radiator cap off then run the engine with the heater on until the water you added is circulating back to the radiator. Remove the radiator plug to drain the water that you added earlier and then replace the plug.

Step 5

Add enough antifreeze to make a 50-70% solution then turn the ignition with the heater on to let the coolant circulate. Let the engine cool, then top off the antifreeze supply by adding to the radiator and coolant reservoir.

Step 6

Take pride in the fact that you just managed to change your own antifreeze! Before performing any servicing to your vehicle always consult your service manual to ensure the purchase of the correct products. Remember that it is always acceptable to ask for help if you do not know how to perform a car service, and that the staff of TM Auto Wholesalers are always happy to assist. If you or anyone you know is in the market for a quality used-vehicle, then please check out our inventory.
